I have asked myself this question on several occasions. Because I love fabric and have since I was a child. Because I think I have a little talent in the game???, because it soothes my soul and provides me with sanity when I think I might go insane...because I have two little girls and two little guys that love their Aunt Paula's quilts. All of those things are true but then I came upon this scene;
There he is in all his glory My husband Larry in his chair, remote in his lap, cell phone on the table, freshly read newspapers laying on the floor and a fresh cold can of Mountain Dew. I couldn't love him more!! I made this quilt for him. It is backed with flannel and filled with wool batting just to keep him comfy and warm. I quilt for this picture! I love all the other arty quilts and mug rugs but this is it folks...a reason for me to keep quilting. Why do you quilt?

Blizzard
Just a quick post this morning as I get ready to brave the "Blizzard" to go to work...I never have trouble going, it's the getting home that is tough.
Today is the first day of the Cherry House Quilt Along. I have my fabric cut and ready to go...now on to the next step next week.
I have just finished up with the quilt top for the Postage Stamp Quilt Along. Need to get the backing made out of my precious Neptune and get it quilted.
I have felt driven to produce since the new year began and I want to keep that going! I have the DQS 10 looming. I will need to mail by March 15th as I am mailing over seas! I will show you more of that project soon!
Stay warm!

Neptune Love
Well I have so many irons in the fire...don't we all but anyway, I think I mentioned my New Year's resolution of making at least one quilt with a bit of my Neptune fabric stash. I think I have enough to make several!
Here is what I have started that will at least get that monkey off of my back!
It is the Postage Stamp Quilt Along with Rachel from PSIQuilt. Check us out on etsy! These are not all of the blocks so it will be bigger. I think I am going to love it. I made it just for me and I have some thoughts on how to quilt it. One resolution down......many more to go!

DQS 10
Sewing, sewing...

Today is catch up day. I was a month behind on my bee blocks so I wanted to catch up on those. I did so! I try to be timely but I failed this month! I needed to finsh my strip sets for the psiquilt Postage Stamp Quilt Along. I did that! Check us out on Flicker!
I just couldn't choose between the Kaffe strips and the Neptune so I am doing both. Don't know if I will be able to keep up with two quilts at once but I am going to give it a try!
We have the "No Prints Allowed" challenge in progress at the KCMQG. These projects are due mid March so they are high on the ToDo list. As you can see I had a couple of ideas on this project also. We shall see how they turn out.
Valetntines day...could use a project or two for that...and then my Great Niece Ava turns 4 in late Feb.....have a quilt planned for that.
So much to d0...so little time. Guess I had better get busy.

psiquilt postage stamp quilt along

I have joined this quilt along on Flickr and we are in the gathering fabric stages. It is hard for me to decide what I want to do. I have too many options and therein lies the problem.
These are my options...........batiks and black, Kaffe and black, Full Moon Forest and white or Neptune and white. It is a difficult choice. I promised myself that I would make a Neptune quilt this year, instead of just hoarding it on the shelf and touching it every now and then. So if I use Neptune I will fullfill that resolution! That would be a good thing.
I love them all and will have to decide by Monday when the first set of instructions are available. Come on over to Flickr...the postage stamp quilt along and join us or just stalk the photos! That is always fun.
How's your new year going??? Hope you are on your way to a quilty productive 2011!

New Year...New Things...

Hard to believe we are dawning a new year tomorrow. They seem to go so quickly and there is always so much I want to get done. I was born on New Year's Day so this makes the day oh so more significant for me as I turn a year older each New Year's Day.
I have projects just lined up in the sewing room do you? We have the KCMQG "Solids Only" challenge....the upcoming Flickr Mug Rug Swap3...I am going to try for DQS10, and then there are those piles of fabric that I have carefully chosen for the line up....
Then the surprise projects that always worm their way in! There is the Modern Quilt Guild challenges for the rest of the year and who knows I may be inspired to try!
New Year's resolutions..........well, I have a few....practice, practice and more practice on my quilter so that I don't have to cringe every time I place those handles in the palms of my hands. So I can be proud and mostly satisfied with the way my quilting looks. Don't over commit so that this quilting thing that I love is always a joy to me. Enjoy my life, determine what really matters and love the world I live in, I have so much to be thankful for.
Here's wishing you and yours a most Happy New Year with many finishes in 2011!!
