New Year...New Things...

Hard to believe we are dawning a new year tomorrow. They seem to go so quickly and there is always so much I want to get done. I was born on New Year's Day so this makes the day oh so more significant for me as I turn a year older each New Year's Day.

I have projects just lined up in the sewing room do you? We have the KCMQG "Solids Only" challenge....the upcoming Flickr Mug Rug Swap3...I am going to try for DQS10, and then there are those piles of fabric that I have carefully chosen for the line up....

Then the surprise projects that always worm their way in! There is the Modern Quilt Guild challenges for the rest of the year and who knows I may be inspired to try!

New Year's resolutions..........well, I have a few....practice, practice and more practice on my quilter so that I don't have to cringe every time I place those handles in the palms of my hands. So I can be proud and mostly satisfied with the way my quilting looks. Don't over commit so that this quilting thing that I love is always a joy to me. Enjoy my life, determine what really matters and love the world I live in, I have so much to be thankful for.
Here's wishing you and yours a most Happy New Year with many finishes in 2011!!

Flickr Mug Rug Swap2

I started and finished what may be my partners mug rug for this swap. I enjoyed making it and did a few things that I haven't done before. I need to wait and see if she likes it. I have one more rug in my head that I may make if she doesn't comment about this one.
These mug rugs are easy to make and fairly quick. I use the rug I received in Swap1 every day on my desk at work.

I had some pretty wild kids at my house on Halloween! Bat Girl...the Skeleton and then along came Buzz! Everyone was ready for a night of gathering candy and dragging Mom and Dad behind in the cold wind.

We also had Woody just to round everything out.
Everyone had a great time and got more candy than they needed...that includes this blogger!

All of you are aware I am sure, that I am an avid Cherry House Quilts fan! To have her speak at the KCMQG meeting last night was truly inspirational. I stumbled upon her quilts after taking an "I Do" class at Harper's Fabric and Quilts. I enjoy making her quilts and truly enjoyed hearing her speak. It is off to her workshop this morning and while I have made the quilt she is teaching I know I will gain from this experience.

Mug Rug Swap on flickr

I joined a great little swap on flickr for Mug Rugs....these are miniature placemats that you can set a coffee or tea mug on and maybe a cookie or brownie. It was my first swap and what fun it was.

This was my creation. My secret partner was "Lollydo" and she listed her favorite things as, the color orange, any shade, Halloween, circles, and she loves dogs, So I stalked her profile and this was what I ended up with.

This swap was so much fun and the members of the swap were very vocal and active which made it that much more enjoyable. The rugs were small and not too terribily time consuming so it was a great experience.

They will start another swap toward the end of October! Take a chance and join. Next post I will show you what my secret partner made for me!

Vacations and other things....

My husband and I took off on a sightseeing vacation recently. It is unusual for us but we wanted to go visit these guys in person. It had been about 40 years since I had been to visit! Chief Crazy Horse has changed drastically in that time. He got a face!! They are working on getting his horse's head in place as their next endeavor. Mt Rushmore has improved the walking trails and access to view the monument. The weather was fantastic.
We took beautiful drives through the Badlands National Park as well as Custer State Park which was full of wildlife to include buffalo, prairie dogs, antelope and wild burros that ate apples and carrots from our hands. All in all it was a great trip.
I can't tell you how much I missed my sewing room while I was gone! If only there was a way to take it along so I could have a little therapy each evening! I stopped by a great little quilt shop in Hill City, South Dakota called the Quilt Corral Too. It was a fantastic shop and they were all very nice. I got a few pieces of fabric to fondle while I was away. I have some projects I have been working on since I returned. I will show you those in my next post.
It is a cool sunny Saturday and I am headed to the sewing room!

What an inspirational evening we had at the KC Modern Quilt Guild last night. As always it started with much conversation. Show and Tell was fascinating as it always is. There are some very talented ladies in this group.

The guest speaker was wonderful and so incredibly inspiring. Jacquie Gering showed us her life through her quilts and it was wonderful. She is so talented and her heart is painted all over her quilts. It was really quite a show.

Next meeting will be Cherry House quilts and I am very excited. Should be another great meeting.

We are almost into our weekend! Happy Quilting.

A Quilt of a Quilt Artist

I made this little quilt for a quilter friend. She had expressed her love for my City News quilt. It is just a small thing 29x29 so not nearly as large as it's inspiration.
I made a matching pin cusion also...my first and it turned out great.

The most intimidating thing is to make a quilt for a quilter. My
friend is a super talented quilt artist and I feel like a beginner
standing next to her! I just knew she would love it and she did!

This is a Schnibbles quilt pattern but done in the Kona Solids and black and whites that I used for City News. All scraps!! Nothing bought for this quilt....even the batting was a scrap.

I like it so much I may have to make another one day. Enjoy my friend.

Neptune Love!

I received some wonderful Neptune love in the mail last week. I have been making every effort to get a full set of Neptune fabrics. I am almost there but still missing a few. Now that I have a little or rather a lot of this line I need to make a few things. I have several ideas and need to get busy with it. After all the new line of Parisville will be out soon and I will be faced with more gorgeous quilt making. I joined the Mug Rug swap on Flickr so maybe it will be Neptune rug. Ya never know!

Just wanted to share my Neptune love with all of you!!

1st and Foremost

Welcome to post #1 on Paula's StitchWitchery! I have enjoyed following quilting blogs so much and have gained knowledge and inspiration through others creativity. I'm hoping to inspire others from time to time with my thoughts, dreams, ideas, and creations.

I will occasionally share my family, her name is Hannah, and occasionally share my favorite things other than quilting. I hope you enjoys my posts in the days to come. I have some new projects underway and will share them in the near future.

Happy quilting,
Paula
